Invoice Simplifier

Save trees (many!) and turn a gnarly distributor invoice PDF into a clean spreadsheet, on your own computer, in about two seconds.

Beta version 1.03 · one HTML file · about 33 KB

Your invoices never leave your computer

The tool itself is a single HTML file that runs inside your browser. There is no upload, no account, no server, and nothing is sent to us or to anyone else. We would not share our invoices with you either! :)

It checks its own work

Every invoice is verified against the totals printed on it. Line numbers have to run 1 to N with no gaps, the quantities have to add up to the stated unit count, and the line amounts have to add up to the invoice total.

If any of that disagrees, it says so instead of handing you a spreadsheet that looks fine but isn’t.

What you get

A simple CSV with a header block naming the invoice, the date, your account number and the totals, then one row per line item: UPC, artist, title, price code, unit price, quantity and extended amount, plus the discount where the invoice applied one.

UPCs are written so a spreadsheet keeps their leading zeros rather than turning them into 6.02548E+11. There is a checkbox to turn that off if a program is reading the file instead of a person.

How to use it

Save the file anywhere. Double-click it. Drag one or more invoice PDFs onto the page, review the “hey it worked” verification badge, and click Download CSV. That’s it. Sort away to your heart’s content.

It currently reads two major music distributors’ invoice layouts and their names start with U & W. :) If you’d like to simplify a different distributor’s invoice let me know and I’ll do my best. We are not direct with S so I would need a couple sample invoices to make that happen.
